National Votes for Women Trail

Alice Scott Abbott’s marker in Espanola Cemetery, Bunnell, Florida

AAUW Flagler County and the Flagler County Historical Society unveiled the marker.  In 1893, Mrs. Abbott gave the first lecture on Votes for Women in St. Augustine.  She remarked later, “It did not take very well, but oh! what a change since then.”  Mrs. Abbott was devoted to registering women to vote after the passing of the 19th Amendment.  Passing away 12 days prior to the November 1920 election, she never got to cast the ballot that she had fought for.
